Australian actor HUGH JACKMAN has been named host of 2009’s 81st Annual Academy Awards.
The 40-year-old star - named People magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive last month (Nov08) - was given the honour by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Friday (12Dec08).
Jackman, who has never been an Oscar nominee, won a prize at the 2005 Emmys for hosting the Tony Awards the same year (05). (more…)

If you’ve ever wondered what Christina Aguilera smells like when she hits the clubs, the mystery is over. The “Ain’t No Other Man” songstress unveiled her new fragrance last night at Macy’s at the Glendale Galleria in Los Angeles.
Named “Inspire,” Christina’s new scent is said to be a mix of fruity scents, including mango, citrus, and freesia, along with a floral array including tuberose, gardenia, rose, and sandalwood.

In a recent interview with the LA Times, the reporter asked her to comment on what people are thinking about the style stealing:
LAT: What do you say to those on the Internet who are hinting that you borrowed Lady Gaga’s look?
CA: You know, that’s funny that you mention that. This person [Lady Gaga] was just brought to my attention not too long ago. I’m not quite sure who this person is, to be honest. I don’t know if it is a man or a woman. I just wasn’t sure. I really don’t spend any time on the Internet, so I guess I live a little under a rock in that respect.

We all know that R&B singer
Usher is a fan of the ladies, but this is taking it pretty far.
Much to the joy of his fans, last night, Usher played a “Ladies Only” show at Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC and the women went wild.
Apparently, the concert was one of 14 planned shows that Usher will perform across the country. As it turned out, it wasn’t a firm rule and plenty of men also came out to party.
Could he be using these new marketing tactics to try and make up for the fact that he’s having trouble selling out seats? The entire place holds only 4,000 seats and somehow, wasn’t nearly sold out.
Either way, Usher certainly played it up for his female fans as he bumped and grinded on stage, tossed sweaty tissues out to the audience, and even gladly accepted two pairs of pink panties from the crowd. Clearly he’s willing to do whatever it takes to keep them happy.
Jay-Z is so determined to get Barack Obama in the white house, he’s going to play another free concert to rally up support for the U.S. Presidential candidate.
J Hova already played a free gig in Detroit, Michigan earlier this month and but had to cancel the second one that was scheduled on October 5th after he suffered a throat illness.
He’s planning on making up for the missed concert with a new one scheduled on October 29, 2008 in Cleveland. The event will be hosted by basketball star LeBron James so you know it’s going to be a kick ass concert!

Sad news for
Dirty Pretty Things fans, the UK band has decided to call it quits, reports the
UK Sun Good news is you have one last chance to see them perform. The band is supposed to kick start their tour at Glasgow’s ABC on Saturday.
Frontman Carl said: “It is with some sadness we announce the farewell of Dirty Pretty Things. It’s been a glorious three years which we all would gladly live out again but it is time for us to try new things (not The Libertines).
“We are reluctant to give up touring but will give the last waltz everything. We have been and are determined to go out as we came in, after which we all have other ventures to be getting on with and splendid future plans.
“Heartfelt thanks to all who made it what it was, much love and we’ll see you on the road.”
At least they’re going to have one last hurrah.

Janet Jackson is done with her record company. Maybe they were giving her enough feedback on her latest album? According to Rodney “Darkchild: Jerkins, Janet cut ties with Def Jam and is officially a free agent.
He says, “We didn’t get the support from the record company. She felt like it wasn’t pushed. I felt like it wasn’t pushed correctly. She just didn’t get her just dues as an artist of that magnitude.”
The two have plans to work together in the future. Darkchild says, “I could make an album with her, possibly me, Jimmy Jam, and Terry Lewis. Keep it real simple. They focus on what they’re great at, I focus on what I’m great at. We come together and make a classic Janet record.”
